Canberra: Corporate travel and aviation leaders gather for CAPA-ACTE Summit - CAPA MEDIA RELEASE

Press Release

CAPA and ACTE bring together leading aviation executives and government officials, travel managers and suppliers in Canberra on 15-Mar-2017 to discuss the aviation outlook, travel industry best practice and share their experiences of well-managed travel programmes.

Organised by CAPA - Centre for Aviation and global business travel organisation ACTE (Association of Corporate Travel Executives), the first annual Canberra Aviation & Corporate Travel Summit will be held on 15 March at the Novotel Canberra.

The event brings together many of the region's leading experts in aviation and corporate travel to discuss developments, trends and market conditions.

The speaker line-up includes:

  • Federal Assistant Minister for Trade, Tourism & Investment The Hon. Keith Pitt MP;
  • Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development Secretary Mike Mrdak;
  • Canberra Airport Chief Executive Officer Stephen Byron;
  • Qantas Group Executive, Government, Industry and International Affairs Andrew Parker;
  • Amadeus Managing Director Tony Carter and many others.

Canberra travellers have recently experienced some of the highest fares per kilometre, the event will include a discussion of the future for aviation in the Australian capital.

As Singapore Airlines, and soon to be Qatar Airways, offer long haul international direct connections and Tigerair adds a Melbourne link, the scene is clearly in for considerable change in coming months. Their impact and the state of travel generally will be put under the microscope, with a special view of the benefits for corporate travellers and buyers.

Canberra's travel buyers will gain insight into Australia's travel and tourism sector and hear first-hand what is happening in the accommodation market, including rates and occupancy trends - both of which impact travel budgets around the country.

One expert panel will look at corporate travel disruption and what it means for those charged with managing travel and ensuring the safety of their travellers.

Another of the highlights will be an emergency simulation, where travel managers will be able to assess their organisation's crisis readiness.

CAPA Executive Chairman, Peter Harbison, said, "the airline industry is rapidly evolving and - thanks in no small part to the efforts of Canberra Airport - the Canberra aviation market has progressed in leaps and bounds in the past couple of years. We look forward to meeting with industry leaders next week to share latest trends and hear from travel procurement professionals as they share their experiences. We have much to learn from each other."
